Approves Petroleum Act 2013

The new Act repeals the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act 1985 as revised in 2000, which guided the sector through the initial promotion efforts and subsequent licensing of international oil companies. Among other things, the new Act regulates petroleum exploration, development and production; establishes the Petroleum Authority of Uganda; provides for the establishment of the National Oil Company; regulates the licensing and participation of commercial entities in petroleum activities; provides for an open, transparent and competitive process of licensing; provides for efficient and safe petroleum activities; provides for the cessation of petroleum activities and decommissioning of infrastructure; provides for the payment arising from petroleum activities, and provides for the conditions for the restoration of derelict lands.
