Brunei exempts seven business activities from the requirement of a business license

11 Feb 2016

On 11 February 2016, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that seven business activities are now exempt from needing a business license. The activities are: (1) Bakery, Food establishment and places of visit and other public entertainment establishments; (2) Hawker; (3) Motor Vehicle Dealer; (4) Gas station including places for storing oil and other inflammable materials; (5) Retail stores; (6) Timber storage and furniture factories and (7) workshops. The businesses that fall under these activities can now start operating once they have received approval for their business name or company incorporation at the Registry of Companies and Business Names. While these activities no longer need to apply for a business license, they still need to comply with existing rules and regulations regarding the type of business they plan to conduct.
