Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK starts screening foreign takeovers and their impact on public health emergencies

On 23 June 2020, a new amendment to the Enterprise Act 2002 entered into force extending the scope of public interest considerations against which foreign acquisitions are scrutinized. From now on, the government will also take into account the "need to maintain in the United Kingdom the capability to combat, and to mitigate the effects of public health emergencies".
