Adoption of Decree to regulate the Free Zones Act

Presidential Decree No. 4/21 (Regulation of the Free Zones Act) of 4 January 2021, establishes the terms for the creation of free zones, the entity responsible for their supervision, and the powers of the free zone managing entity. It also provides for the creation of an investor counter for each free zone. The Regulations further include provisions on various operational aspects of free zones, such as the control of the entry and exit of goods into/from the free zone. The Free Zones Act is primarily focused on developing the agricultural and industrial sector, labour-intensive industries and high-tech industries.A Tax Incentives Bill was also subject to public consultation in December 2020. The bill would grant a range of tax incentives to companies established in the free zones.
