New investment screening regime will be operational on 4 January 2022

The British Government set the date of the commencement of the National Security and Investment Act for 4 January 2022. The new legislation is a major amendment of foreign investment screening mechanism in the United Kingdom. Additionally, a regulatory guidance was published to facilitate the transition into a new regime.

Finally, the Goverment designated 17 sensitive sectors in which investment is subject to prior approval. These include: Advanced Materials, Advanced Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Civil Nuclear, Communications, Computing Hardware, Critical Suppliers to Government, Cryptographic Authentication, Data Infrastructure, Defence, Energy, Military and Dual-Use, Quantum Technologies, Satellite and Space Technologies, Suppliers to the Emergency Services, Synthetic Biology, and Transport.
