Extends ban on investments by US nationals in certain chinese companies

16 Dec 2021

On 16 December 2021, the US Department of the Treasury (Office of Foreign Assets Control) added eight Chinese companies to the list of technology firms as established by Executive Orders 13959 and 14032, which lists companies identified by US authorities as supporting China's defense and surveillance technology sector.

The eight companies have been identified as actively supporting "bio-metric surveillance and tracking of ethnic and religious minorities in China". Under national security grounds and in accordance with such executive orders, US nationals are banned from purchasing or selling publicly traded securities of the targeted entities, or any derivative instruments that could provide investment exposure to the aforementioned securities.
