Adopts new Investment Code to promote sustainable and responsible investment

On 17 June 2019, the Government of Togo adopted a new Investment Code which aims to promote, facilitate and protect sustainable and responsible investment, with a view to supporting employment policy and activities generating income to populations in general and, in particular, to youth, women and people with disabilities; promote the creation of sustainable and qualified jobs; promote the creation of high value-added activities; encourage the use and development of natural resources and local raw materials; encourage the transfer of skills and the use of new technologies; developing exports; encouraging the decentralization of economic activities; promote and conduct certain major projects; stimulate technological innovation.

The new Code defines the advantages and guarantees granted to investments, including investment guarantees (principles of equal treatment and non-discrimination, the guarantee of the transfer of capital and remuneration, freedom of management, protection of investments by the State); and dispute resolution. Finally, the law provides corresponding obligations to investors.
