Declares three new export processing zones

16 Feb 2023

On 16 February 2023, Kenya announced the launching of three new export processing zones (EPZs), namely land in Bonje (Kwale County), a space in a building in Bombululu (Mombasa County), and office space and land in Mavoko (Machakos County). The three new EPZs aim to promote export oriented industrialization, attract investments and industrial development. Kenya counts with several EPZs, located in Nairobi, Mombasa, Athi River, Kilifi, Malindi and Kerio Valle and managed by the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA). Businesses within an EPZ are permitted to import machinery, equipment and materials for the production of export goods tax free. Also, EPZ-based operations are eligible for a tax holiday.
