Lifts moratorium on exploration licences

On 15 September 2023, the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources issued an official notice to inform the public that it has lifted the moratorium on the issuance of Exploration Licences with immediate effect. The Notice called upon companies wishing to apply for an Exploration Licence to read the relevant sections of the Mines and Minerals Development Act, 2022 and any other related legislation before applying. Also, companies wishing to apply for an Exploration Licence were advised to submit their applications to the National Minerals Agency (NMA), starting 1 October 2023. The appropriate Exploration Licence would be issued after carefully assessing the application in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Mines and Minerals Development Act, 2022. Finally, the Notice cancelled all previous applications for Exploration Licences.
