Issues a list of ten critical technology areas vital for its economic security

03 Oct 2023

On October 3, the European Commission issued a list of ten critical technology areas vital for the European Union's economic security. Among these, advanced semiconductors, AI, quantum technologies, and biotechnologies are considered the most sensitive and immediately concerning. The other technology areas listed include advanced connectivity, navigation and digital technologies, advanced sensing technologies, space and propulsion technologies, energy, robotics and autonomous systems, advanced materials, manufacturing, and recycling technologies. This development is expected to lead to increased scrutiny for ongoing and future transactions of foreign investors in these sectors under EU foreign subsidies regulations and member States' FDI screening mechanisms.
