Adopts €550 million in aid for hydrogen in industry

30 Jan 2024

On 30 January 2024, the European Commission approved an Italian €550 million aid scheme, designed to support investments for the use of hydrogen in place of methane and other fossil fuels within industrial settings. This scheme is set to provide direct grants to enterprises that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 per cent or cut energy consumption by at least 20 per cent, with hydrogen consumption requirements scaling up to 100 per cent by 2036. The aid, drawn from Italy's "Recovery and Resilience Plan" resources aligns with the broader European Union strategy to progress towards a net-zero economy.
