Expands ombudsman services to all investors

22 Apr 2019

On 22 April 2019, Decree No. 9770 broadened the Direct Investments Ombudsman (DIO) services to assist both foreign and domestic investors. Initially created on 28 September 2016 under Decree No. 8863 within the Cooperation and Facilitation Investment Agreement (CFIA) framework, the DIO serves as a “single window” for foreign investors, managed by the CAMEX Executive Secretariat.

The DIO handles investment-related inquiries, coordinating with federal, state, and municipal agencies through the Focal Points Network. Its services are accessible online: https://oid.mdic.gov.br/en/menus/8.

The new Decree expanded the Ombudsman’s duties to include consultations on legislation and procedures for foreign investors and solutions to specific investment issues. For national investors, the focus is on support abroad, especially in countries with which Brazil has investment agreements.
