Adopts €250 million scheme to support hydrogen projects

28 Jul 2023

On 28 July 2023, the European Commission approved a €246 million scheme in the Netherlands to support the production of renewable hydrogen. The scheme will finance at least 60 megawatts of electrolysis capacity through a competitive bidding process open to companies within the European Economic Area. Selected projects will receive direct grants for a period of seven to fifteen years, provided they meet European Union criteria for renewable hydrogen production. The scheme prioritizes electrolysis projects generating renewable hydrogen and requires beneficiaries to comply with the European Union’s sustainability standards. This initiative aligns with the European Union Hydrogen Strategy, the European Green Deal and the REPowerEU Plan, which aim to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and accelerate the green transition.
