Workshop in Casablanca on Regional Approaches to Investment Policymaking

60 experts from 30 countries are discussing regional approaches to investment policymaking at a 3-day workshop in Casablanca, Morocco, from 18 to 20 December 2018. The regional workshop on “Enhancing regional approaches to investment protection and facilitation for sustainable development” is organized by UNCTAD in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Moroccan Investment Development Agency (AMDIE).

The regional workshop brings together senior Government officials from IsDB member countries to discuss strategic investment policymaking issues. It aims at facilitating the sharing of best practices on how to modernize existing regional investment agreements and to address the stock of old-generation bilateral investment treaties (BITs) in line with today’s sustainable development imperative. It will also highlight the importance of investment facilitation policies for sustainable development at the regional level.

Topics of the 3-day workshop:

  • Day 1: From bilateralism to regionalism in investment policymaking
  • Day 2: New-generation regional approaches to investment policymaking
  • Day 3: National experience in tackling the existing stock of old-generation BITs
