Adopts a new public-private partnership law

19 Jul 2011

Uruguay has adopted a new law (Law 18.786) on public-private partnership (PPP) contracts for infrastructure construction and services. The law complements budgeted State investment in infrastructure with projects funded and managed by the private sector. Under the legislation, the Government will be able to enter into individual contracts with private companies in areas as diverse as roads, railways, ports, airports, energy and social infrastructure. The legislation states that investment under PPPs in a given year cannot exceed the equivalent of 7 percent of GDP for the previous year.
