Introduces a €500 million aid scheme to promote investment in agricultural holdings

30 Nov 2023

On 30 November 2023, the European Commission approved a €500 million aid scheme introduced by France to promote investment in agricultural holdings. The scheme aims to enhance food sovereignty, support adaptation to climate change, and ensure both economic competitiveness and environmental protection. Eligible investments encompass physical and intangible assets related to agricultural production, renewable energy, bioenergy, irrigation, and biodiversity preservation. The aid is provided in various forms, including direct subsidies, tax benefits, and reduced-interest loans. The maximum aid intensity is set at 65 per cent, with potential increases to 80 or 100 per cent for projects focused on environmental protection, climate adaptation, or disaster recovery. The scheme will remain in effect until 31 December 2029. The initiative aligns with France’s Plan stratégique national and supports European Union policies on agriculture, climate action, and biodiversity.
