Restricts foreign investment in the 'Ride-Sharing' sector

On 28 April 2024, Nepal amended several laws through an ordinance regarding foreign investment. Among them, the Foreign Investment and Technology Transfer Act was amended to include ride-sharing services with foreign ownership exceeding 70 per cent in the Negative List. The Negative List refers to industries where foreign investment is either prohibited or restricted. In the ride-sharing sector, foreign ownership above 70 per cent is not permitted. The ordinance took effect on the date of its announcement and was subsequently ratified as a law by the Parliament on 8 July 2024.
