Transfer of mining assets to the State-owned mining holding company

11 Jun 2025

On 11 June 2025, the Council of Ministers of Burkina Faso issued a decree approving the transfer of former mining assets from several majority foreign-owned companies — Wahgnion Gold SA, SEMAFO Boungou SA, Ressources Ferké SARL, Gryphon Minerals Burkina Faso SARL, and Lilium Mining Services Burkina Faso SARL — to the Société de Participation Minière du Burkina (SOPAMIB), the State-owned mining holding company.

This decision aligns with the government's broader strategy to enhance national ownership and control over strategic mining assets. The transfer is carried out in accordance with Law No. 016-2024/ALT, dated 18 July 2024, which governs Burkina Faso’s Mining Code.
