Eliminates tax on foreign exchange transactions related to the repatriation of foreign investment

On 11 June 2025, the Government of Brazil adopted Decree No. 12.499/2025, reducing the Tax on Financial Operations on foreign exchange (IOF-FX) transactions related to the repatriation of foreign investment to 0 per cent, effective 12 June 2025. This reversed the earlier increase from 0.4 to 3.5 per cent introduced by Decree No. 12.466/2025 in May 2025.

Concurrently, the Government issued Provisional Measure No. 1,303/2025, increasing the withholding tax on Interest on Net Equity (INE) payments from 15 to 20 per cent, effective 1 January 2026.
