Provides State aid to support renewable hydrogen production

24 Jun 2025

On 15 April 2025, the European Commission approved a €400 million State aid scheme to support renewable hydrogen production. The scheme facilitates the installation of up to 345 megawatts of electrolyser capacity and the production of up to 221,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen. Companies planning to build new electrolysers in Spain were invited to participate in a competitive bidding process in 2025. The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) oversaw the bidding through the European Hydrogen Bank “Auctions-as-a-Service” tool. Beneficiaries will receive a grant per kilogram of renewable hydrogen produced for a period of up to ten years. The scheme aligns with the Clean Industrial Deal, the REPowerEU Plan and the European Union Hydrogen Strategy.
