High-level Brainstorming on Investment Facilitation and Promotion: Challenges and Actions in Times of Pandemic Crisis

09 Apr 2020

UNCTAD is closely monitoring the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on investment and the support that governments are providing to the business community. As part of these efforts, UNCTAD is looking together with partners at the important role that investment promotion agencies and institutions (IPAs) are playing in servicing their business communities and investors.

Against this backdrop, UNCTAD’s Investment Promotion Section organized on 7 April 2020 a virtual brainstorming on Investment Facilitation and Promotion: Challenges and Actions in Time of Pandemic Crisis. The webinar brought together more than 20 IPA executives and was the first of a series that UNCTAD is planning at the Division of Investment and Enterprise on different topics related to COVID-19 and investment.

Participants were asked to discuss the following questions:

  • How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting FDI flows to and MNEs operations in your country?
  • What are the challenges for your IPA’s operations, and what concrete measures are you taking to promote, facilitate and retain FDI?
  • What longer term strategies are you planning for in the post-pandemic era?

The outcome of the brainstorming will be a report prepared by UNCTAD which will be available soon.
