09 Dec 2025UNCTAD introduces the IIA Learning Assistant, a specialized chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The chatbot is designed to make learning about international investment agreements (IIAs) easier and faster. Built on UNCTAD’s trusted research from publications, this tool delivers expert-backed insights into the modernization and reform of the IIA regime through a sustainable development lens.
The IIA Learning Assistant can help government officials, policymakers, stakeholders and the wider public to deepen their understanding of IIAs, with a particular focus on reform issues. The tool is available for users upon registration and is provided free of charge.
Why choose the IIA
Learning Assistant?
- Expert knowledge base: It builds on UNCTAD’s published research on IIAs.
- Controlled and specialized sources: It does not rely on general internet content, and is focused on international investment law and policy.
- Optimized for capacity-building: It is the ideal companion for workshops and technical assistance activities.
- Full transparency: Every answer includes source links for easy verification.
UNCTAD has integrated strong reliability and safety features into the IIA Learning Assistant. However, AI-generated responses may occasionally contain errors or inaccuracies. Users should review and independently verify all responses. To support this, the IIA Learning Assistant has a “Show sources” button, providing direct access to the relevant UNCTAD publications.
