1,440 cases now available in the Investment Dispute Settlement Navigator

12 Jan 2026

UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has updated its Investment Dispute Settlement Navigator, offering information on a total of 1,440 investor–State arbitration cases under investment treaties as of 31 July 2025.

As part of this update, UNCTAD has added new cases, arbitral decisions and arbitrator appointments compiled on the basis of public sources and specialized reporting services.

Key findings of this update

During the first seven months of 2025, claimants brought at least 35 known investor–State dispute settlement (ISDS) cases pursuant to international investment agreements (IIAs).

As of 31 July 2025, the total number of known investment treaty arbitrations had reached 1,440.

To date, 136 countries and one economic grouping (the European Union) are known to have been respondents to one or more ISDS claims.

You can browse the ISDS Navigator to find information on the subject matter and the status of arbitral proceedings, awards and decisions issued by tribunals, breaches of IIA provisions alleged and found, amounts claimed and awarded, and arbitrators serving on the tribunal.

Next update

The full-year update of the ISDS Navigator, covering developments until 31 December 2025, is scheduled for release in March/April 2026.

Note: Annual and cumulative ISDS case numbers are subject to retroactive upwards adjustments over time, incorporating previously unknown cases that surfaced after delays. As some arbitrations can be kept fully confidential, the actual number of cases filed is likely to be higher.
