Passes fiscal incentive legislation

The Government of Jamaica passed legislation to simplify the tax system, encourage investment, and reduce state revenue losses. Effective 1 January 2014, the legislation repealed 11 industry-specific incentive schemes. The Petroleum Act and a few incentives for free trade zones and producers of bauxite and alumina were not affected. The approved legislation, inter alia, also allows the finance minister to grant specific incentives (within annual caps) for large-scale projects and pioneering industries.
